Our watermelon is grown organically in the fields at CFR Farms in Beaverton, Ontario, without synthetic pesticides — one of more than 30 varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs we grow on our self-sustainable, solar-powered farm just outside the GTA. We let our watermelons ripen fully in the field before harvest, which is what gives them that deep sweetness that’s hard to find in melons picked early for long-haul shipping. Growing watermelon organically also means the soil around it stays healthier over time — we’re not relying on synthetic inputs that build up in the land season after season. Because our farm runs on clean solar power and keeps operating costs down through self-sufficient infrastructure, we can offer organic produce like this at genuinely fair prices, not a premium markup for the ‘organic’ label. Watermelon will be available seasonally through our online store for home delivery, at our on-farm retail outlet, or wholesale to hotels, restaurants, and grocery stores across the GTA. We’ve also built walk-in cold storage on-site to help extend availability a little further past peak harvest. Any surplus that doesn’t sell gets donated weekly to our local food bank and the Salvation Army kitchen, so a good growing season benefits the wider community too.
