Scaling Our Free-Range Egg & Poultry Operation

We’re starting with 500 chickens — 250 meat birds for the butcher and 250 layers producing 220–230 eggs a day. By the end of next year, we plan to scale to 5,000 chickens: 2,500 meat birds and 2,500 layers producing roughly 2,450 eggs a day.

Every bird on the farm is raised free-range on pasture, supported by our own breeding and hatching program to grow the flock sustainably rather than relying on outside hatcheries.

Eggs and meat from our flock are available through our online store, retail outlet, and wholesale to hotels, restaurants, and grocery stores across the GTA.

This project is central to CFR Farms’ growth — scaling responsibly while keeping every bird raised the way we believe poultry should be.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

10x Growth Within a Year

Scaling from 500 to 5,000 birds in twelve months is one of the most ambitious targets on the farm. We’re approaching it in phases, expanding flock size only as fast as our pasture space, housing, and processing capacity allow.

Managing Layers, Broilers, and Hatchlings Together

Running three distinct programs — egg-laying, meat production, and breeding — under one flock requires careful planning around space, feed, and scheduling to keep each program healthy and productive.

Poultry is one of the fastest-growing parts of CFR Farms, and building the infrastructure to scale it responsibly is a top priority as we grow.
