Few animals on the farm offer this level of versatility, and building the systems to make the most of it is core to CFR Farms’ long-term goat program.
Building Our Goat Herd for Meat, Dairy & Fibre
Our goat herd starts at 50 animals and grows to 500 by the end of the year, with roughly 50 goats a month reaching the butcher. Goat meat is consumed widely around the world and is the preferred meat choice during Ramadan, making it a steady, in-demand product for our restaurant and grocery partners.
Goats are one of the most productive animals on the farm — beyond meat, their milk is a popular alternative to cow’s milk, used to make cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and kefir, while their cashmere and mohair fibre goes into clothing and blankets.
Nothing goes to waste: goat hide is tanned into leather, and manure is put back to work on the farm as fertilizer and for natural land management, clearing brush and weeds.
Today, our goat herd supports:
-
Meat, milk, and cheese products
-
Cashmere and mohair fibre
-
Leather and natural fertilizer from hide and manure
This project reflects our belief in raising animals that give back to the farm in more ways than one.
